Have you ever read a book that just kept getting better and better the further you got into it? That's what The Garden of Happy Endings by Barbara O'Neal did to me. It's not like this story starts off slow either. The first line of the prologue is "The second time Elsa turned her back on God it was raining." Seriously? Don't you want to know what happened the first time? And now I'm hanging on the edge of my seat to know what will happen next.
We don't have to wait long to find out that the third time Elsa turns her back on God is after a young girl in her church is sexually assaulted and murdered. Unable to deal with this trauma and questioning her faith, Elsa is forced to take a leave from her pastorate to heal herself. She goes back to her own home and in the midst of her loved ones she begins to rebuild a life for herself.
